Dar Malika is a stylish, traditional villa in Morocco to rent. The beautifully restored traditional building is in the ancient Fez Medina. Originally the house of the local Iman, Dar Malika retains original features such as the patterned tiled floors, huge cedar doors, wrought iron windows and balconies. It’s the ideal base from which to explore the World Heritage listed city of Fez in Morocco. Located in a quiet street close to souks, restaurants and cafes, Dar Malika is just three minutes’ walk from parking. On the terrace, you can enjoy a meal, or a drink, or a relaxing sunbathe. Or revel in the atmosphere during the call to prayer.

Stylish traditional villa to rent

The house, or Dar, is more than 300 years old and has been lovingly restored to its former beauty. It has been recently been upgraded to include contemporary comforts such as a private bathroom for each bedroom, reverse cycle air-conditioning and Fibre Optic Wifi. The house is equipped with everything you need for a luxurious, comfortable holiday. Comfortable beds, good quality sheets, feather duvets, shampoo, shower gel, soap, Bosch hairdryers and tissues. There are electric blankets for winter stays.

In the main salon is a satellite TV with hundreds of channels, including English and French ones. Plus there is a Bluetooth speaker, so you can enjoy music from your own digital device. The kitchen is well equipped, with a toaster, espresso and French press coffee plunger, pots and pans of various sizes and cooking utensils.We also have a laundry with a washing machine and dryer.

The house can sleep a total of 6 people in two double beds and three singles. A cot is available on request. Children under two years old are free. The house will be exclusively yours to enjoy. However, we are on hand should you have any queries or would like our assistance to arrange tours, transport or meals.

The Neighbourhood

Located close to souks, restaurants and cafes, Dar Malika is just two minutes’ walk from parking.

It’s in the Cherablyene district, off a small square that has a pharmacy and small grocery shop. There is also an excellent cafe, Fondouk Bazaar, with a healthy menu offering Moroccan and Western food. A number of good restaurants are within a short walking distance, including on Riad Laroussa’s rooftop. The gourmet restaurant Nur (featured in Gordon Ramsey’s “Uncharted”) is just around the corner.

A wide variety of street food is also available along the main street, the Ta’laa K’bira. If you enjoy cooking, the souk at the top of the street offers an abundance of fresh produce.

Many significant buildings can be found in the district, including the Bou Inania Medersa, dating from 1350.

Home truths

Things the photos don’t tell you, but we do.

• The house is tall and narrow, in the Fez tradition. It has stairs between each of the three levels, with stair rails.
• If you are in one of the bedrooms over the street, you may hear people going past in the evening. However, it’s usually quiet during the night.

Extra Services

We offer breakfast on request and a range of drinks, including wine and beer, is available for purchase. Breakfast is €5 per person, and includes two sorts of Moroccan bread, jam and honey, cheese, eggs to order, fruit, yoghurt, fresh orange juice and real coffee or tea.

Dinner is available with 24 hours notice – a home cooked Moroccan meal of your choice. The cost for a three course meal (salads/main/dessert) is €25 per person, excluding drinks.

Transfers from the airport or train station are available at an additional cost. We can also arrange a guide for a tour of the Medina, or a car and driver for trips further afield.
